Overview

In this position, the Sales Rep I will be directly responsible for working closely with the DOD team both internally at DLT and externally at Red Hat to help renew and grow the existing pipeline. The Sales Rep I will help sell Red Hat products to the public sector, and work closely with his or her technology vendor counterparts to develop a business plan to help guide their success.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for selling Red Hat products to the public sector
  • Articulate effectively the value proposition associated with Red Hat software products
  • Recommend business solutions based on customer's needs
  • Develop monthly sales pipeline and generate weekly sales calls with public sector customers
  • Identify new business opportunities and perform initial customer qualifications
  • Engage with key accounts at the beginning of sales cycle to assess specific customer needs
  • Create solutions based on customer needs
  • Compile lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from trade shows, direct-mail responses, aged leads, dealer resellers, business directories, Internet web sites, inbound inquiries, outbound cold calls and other sources.
  • Enter new customer sales data and activity and update current customer data as necessary into business systems
  • Prepare quotes and reports and give presentations of business transactions
  • Investigate and resolve customer issues and complaints
  • Work with outside vendor sales representatives to keep account activities and literature up to date
  • Make daily independent decisions related to the sale of products, negotiating margin and terms and conditions of the sale within corporate guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Experience

  • College or technical degree preferred
  • Must have at least 1-2 year of product sales experience in IT or other relevant field
  • Able to work independently and make independent sales decisions

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of government procurement rules, regulations, and buying vehicles
  • Ability to develop questioning strategy to identify customer needs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to solicit customer input to develop accurate forecasting
  • Ability to recognize customer business issues and economic factors
